Fishlake St Cuthbert's, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire

FISHLAKE ST CUTHBERT'S

Built by the Normans in the 12th century and dedicated to St. Cuthbert, it is reputed that his body rested here on its way to burial. His bones were carried by his faithful monks for seven years from about 875 over a wide district between the Humber and the Tweed in order to escape the Danish pagans.

Don't Miss

Don't miss the splendid Norman doorway and it's rich scultpures (from 1170) is worth extra time to see. Also check out the remarkable rood screen from 1500 and a 1616 priest's stall.
