Doncaster Features: Famous Doncastrian: Malcolm Stacey

Television's Malcolm Stacey was born in Doncaster, the son of piano teacher Douglas Stacey and his wife Molly. He lived in Manor Drive, Bennetthorpe until he was 21. He went to Beechfield Junior School and Doncaster Grammar School. His brother is cartoonist, Richard Stacey who now lives in Armthorpe.

Malcolm began his career as a reporter at the Peet Freelance Newsagency in Doncaster, until leaving to become a film critic in York.

While still in Doncaster he played piano in The Demon Squad, a pre Beatles, Rock n' Roll group.

Afterwards he regualry appeared on BBCTV in Bristol and became a reporter on Radio Four's Today programme. Next, Malcolm produced the famous TV crime reporter, Roger Cook, before he became presenter of Radio Four's daily consumer show You and Yours.

Malcolm was also a TV news reporter in London and presented BBC Children's Television.
Malcolm Stacey
Now a best-selling author, his latest book For the Love of Alice is the little-known story of how Prime Minister Tony Blair faught to save the life of a little Dewsbury girl with a rare blood disease. Mr Blair wrote the forward to the book.

Malcolm's also a director of Sharecrazy.com, a cut-rate share trading company run for private investors

His next book is the story of his 5 years as a gadabout cub reporter in Swinging Sixties Doncaster.
