Doncaster Features: Famous Doncastrian: Mike Elwiss
Mike Elwiss attended Danum Grammar in the 60s, left in 1970, and had a semi decent career.
He joined Doncaster Rovers from school before moving to Preston for £60,000 when Bobby Charlton was their manager.
Liverpool had 2 or 3 looks at him but he went to Crystal Palace for £200,000 when Venables was set to make them 'The Team of the Eighties'.
He was club captain but his career ended at Crystal Palace when he got the old knee ligament injury and re-signed with Preston N.E, following the injury that effectively finished his career, but wasn't able to recapture his form.
Mike married Olive Leeming, the daughter of Prestons former Chairman.
It's rumoured he was involved in farming in the Catforth district and/or a clothing retail business.
Thanks to Phil W & Mark Allen.
