Doncaster Features: Famous Doncastrian: Louis Tomlinson
Louis Tomlinson is part of boy band One Direction alongside fellow band members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles.
Louis Tomlinson was born on the 24th December 1991 in Doncaster to parents Johannah and Troy. His parents split soon after and Louis took his step-father's name Tomlinson. He has four younger step-sisters: Charlotte, Félicité, and twins Daisy and Phoebe.
He went to The Hayfield School in Auckley where he failed his A Levels before moving to Hall Cross and re-doing them. It was as a student at Hall Cross that Louis starred in several musical productions including one of his favourites Grease. He also attended an acting school in Barnsley.
When Daisy and Phoebe had minor roles as babies on sitcom Fat Friends, Louis went along and was included as an extra. He also had minor parts in ITV drama If I Had You, and BBC's Waterloo Road.
He succeeded at the auditions for The X Factor's seventh series but when he got through to bootcamp he was rejected and put together into the boy band we know now as One Direction.
He once had a job at the Keepmoat for Doncaster Rovers as a waiter in their hospitality suites. He says "I wasn't the best waiter, but I used to get good tips because I loved a chat, and maybe a little flirting here and there..." Sadly he supports Manchester United though.
One Direction released their debut album, Up All Night, in November 2011, and it became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of 2011. In early 2012, it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making One Direction the first UK group in history to debut at number one with their first album. In 2012, "What Makes You Beautiful" won the award for Best British Single at the 2012 BRIT Awards.
